Another successful year…and a stunning fundraising amount of $1,082,512! The 2018 annual CancerCare Manitoba Challenge for Life event again smashed over $1 million in funds raised! All the funds raised from this event stay in Manitoba. These funds help the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation (CCMF) provide programs for early detection and prevention, clinical trials and research that is not eligible for government funding. This foundation has an interesting initiative of providing a bead for every test or treatment that a child has to go through, eventually creating a meaningful necklace of beads.
CancerCare Manitoba hosts this annual event each year, where participants can either “Walk It” or “Work It” in their efforts to raise funds for the much-needed cancer programs in Manitoba. “Walking It” consists of a 20 kilometre walk through the city of Winnipeg, or “Working It” consists of a 200-minute workout – neither of which are small feats! The participants of this event rose to the challenge, and again made it another happy, successful event.
Around 45 volunteers from the Rapid Relief Teams from the Manitoba area were pleased to assist in this event again for the third year in a row, serving food to the participants, assisting with water deliveries along the route, set-up and clean-up, and just being there to lend a hand wherever required.
Serving with care and kindness
The event was a great conclusion to another successful year of fundraising and RRT was excited to be included again. All the best for 2019 to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation and good luck on smashing those targets again!
